Intelligent Candidate Routing Is Here. Every Applicant Gets the Right Screen

When we launched RoundOne, the pitch was simple: stop screening CVs, start screening candidates. Talk to everyone. Get a shortlist built on real conversations, not keyword matches.

That model works. But it has a cost problem.

Running a full voice interview for every applicant on a 500-person role is expensive — in compute, in candidate time, and in recruiter attention when you’re reviewing the results. Some of those 500 applicants are obviously the wrong fit. Others are borderline. A small group are genuinely strong. Treating them all the same doesn’t make sense.

So we built something better. Today we’re launching Intelligent Candidate Routing — a multi-stage screening pipeline that automatically matches each applicant to the right level of screening based on their AI match score.

The Problem With One-Size-Fits-All Screening

Traditional screening is binary. You either speak to someone or you don’t. CVs go into a pile. Someone reads them. Some get a call. Most don’t hear back.

Even with AI screening, the instinct is often the same: screen everyone the same way, then filter. That works up to a point. But when you’re handling hundreds of applicants per role, you want the screening to do more of the work — not just collect answers, but intelligently decide how deep to go based on what it’s already learned about each candidate.

The insight: A candidate who clearly doesn’t meet the baseline requirements doesn’t need a 12-minute voice interview. But a candidate who scores strongly on the CV pre-screen shouldn’t be stuck in a text chat queue when they’re ready to have a real conversation.

The right screening step should match the signal strength of the candidate. That’s what Intelligent Routing does.

How the Pipeline Works

The new screening pipeline in action on beta.roundone.ai — candidates flow automatically through CV review, chat pre-screen, or direct to voice screen based on their match score.

Every applicant now enters a structured pipeline with four possible paths. Here’s how the flow works:

The pipeline starts with a CV and voice note review — the AI reads the application and scores it against the role criteria you’ve defined. From there, candidates are routed automatically based on that score. Strong matches go straight to voice screening. Mid-range candidates go through a chat pre-screen first to surface more signal. Below-threshold applicants go on hold — no automated rejection, just a hold — so your team makes the final call.

The result: 500 applied, roughly 200 reviewed, 80 screened, 15 shortlisted. Every shortlisted candidate backed by conversation, not guesswork.

Candidate Routing Controls

Routing thresholds are fully configurable. You decide where the lines sit.

The routing settings panel. Set your chat and voice screening thresholds independently — the routing preview updates in real time so you can see the breakdown before saving.

In the routing panel, you set two thresholds independently:

Toggle automatic routing on or off at any time. When it’s on, candidates are invited to the right screening stage the moment they apply — no manual triage needed. When it’s off, you review each CV score and route manually.

Why configurable thresholds matter

A high-volume customer service role might warrant a lower voice threshold — you want more candidates in the conversation, not fewer. A senior engineering hire might sit at 85+. The defaults (60/75) work well for most roles, but the control is yours.

The Full Candidate View

The candidate pipeline board for a Customer Support role. 30 of 32 screenings completed. Each column represents a stage — candidates flow left to right as they progress through the pipeline.

The pipeline board shows exactly where every candidate sits. Each column is a stage: CV Screen, Chat Screen, Voice Screen, Shortlisted, and Rejected (with zero in the Rejected column — no automated rejections, by design).

In the example above, this Customer Support role has 30 of 32 screenings completed. Five candidates have been shortlisted, with scores ranging from 63% to 83%. Each shortlisted candidate has a recorded screening you can replay — Nimesh Francis, 83%, with a 9:11 voice screen. Mohan, 75%, 10:49. The evidence is there. Your team decides who moves forward.

Chat Pre-Screen: The Middle Path

The Chat Pre-Screen stage is new. It sits between CV review and voice interview — an asynchronous text-based Q&A that gives mid-scoring candidates a chance to add signal before committing them to a full voice screen.

This matters for candidates who are borderline on the CV but might communicate well in writing. It also matters for cost: a text exchange costs a fraction of a voice interview. Candidates who clear the chat threshold move up to voice. Those who don’t go on hold for manual review.

From the candidate’s perspective: they get an email invite, answer a few short questions in their own time, and hear back. No scheduling. No camera. No one-sided silence on the other end.

What Stays the Same

The things that have always mattered about RoundOne haven’t changed:

No automated rejections. Candidates go on hold — not out. Your team makes the final call on anyone below threshold. The AI surfaces the signal; humans decide who moves forward.

No black-box scores. Every score comes with the conversation or the Q&A transcript that generated it. You can replay every voice screen. You can read every chat response. The evidence is there.

No camera required. Voice screens are still just voice. Chat screens are still just text. The bar for candidates to participate stays low — because a stressed-out candidate gives you worse signal than a comfortable one.

Who This Is For

If you’re screening fewer than 50 applicants per role, routing thresholds might be more overhead than they’re worth. The single-stage voice screen still works fine.

If you’re handling 150+ applicants per role — customer support, operations, retail, grad intake, any high-volume function — the routing pipeline changes the maths completely. You stop treating a 45% match and an 82% match the same way. You stop burning voice screening budget on applicants who don’t pass a basic fit check.

And you stop leaving strong candidates in a queue because there wasn’t bandwidth to reach them before they accepted another offer.
