High-volume hiring

Definition

High-volume hiring is recruiting large numbers of people for similar roles, often with hundreds of applicants per opening. Speed to contact and consistent screening matter most.

High-volume hiring is common in retail, logistics, contact centres, hospitality, healthcare support and seasonal work, where an employer may need dozens or hundreds of people for the same role at once. The work is less about finding one exceptional profile and more about processing large numbers of applicants consistently, booking interviews quickly and keeping candidates engaged until they start.

At this scale, manual CV review creates queues, and candidates who wait days for a reply often accept another offer. Clear must-haves, short structured screening that every applicant can complete, ranked shortlists for recruiters to review and regular checks for adverse impact let teams move fast without lowering standards. Volume also magnifies any bias, so consistency is a fairness issue as well as an efficiency one.
