Talent acquisition (TA)

Definition

Talent acquisition (TA) is the strategic function of finding, attracting and hiring people, including employer branding, workforce planning and pipeline building.

Talent acquisition is broader than filling today's open roles. A TA team typically covers workforce planning with the business, employer branding, sourcing, recruitment operations, selection methods, reporting and the tools that support them. Recruiting is one part of TA, focused on running individual vacancies, while TA as a whole looks at how the organisation attracts and hires people over the longer term.

A strong TA function gives hiring managers a consistent process, reliable data and a pipeline that does not start from zero each time. As volumes grow, it also sets the standards that keep hiring fair: agreed criteria per role, structured assessments, clear data protection practice and a rule that people, not tools, make hiring decisions.
